Three Things I’m Paying Attention to This Year

As the year begins, I’m resisting the urge to declare goals, resolutions, or sweeping intentions. Instead, I’m choosing something simpler, and, I think, more sustaining.

This year, I’m paying attention.

Not to-do lists. Not outcomes. Not urgency.

Just attention.

Here are three things that feel worth noticing as this year unfolds:

1. Decision Quality

I’m paying attention to how decisions are made — not just what decisions are made. The pace, the information considered, the voices included, the space allowed for reflection. Over time, I’ve noticed that good outcomes tend to follow thoughtful process, not speed. This year, I’m noticing what improves decision quality — and what quietly erodes it.

2. Alignment

I’m paying attention to alignment — between values and actions, words and follow-through, intention and impact. When things feel heavy or strained, misalignment is often nearby.

When things move with ease, alignment usually is too. I’m curious about where alignment shows up naturally, and where it needs more care.

3. Energy Sustainability

I’m paying attention to what actually sustains energy over time, not just what creates momentum in the short term. The work, conversations, environments, and rhythms that restore rather than deplete. This isn’t about doing less; it’s about doing what can be done well and continuously.

None of this is a prescription. Just a posture.

I’m starting this year with curiosity instead of urgency, attention instead of acceleration, and openness instead of expectation. My hope is that this quieter orientation creates space for better decisions, steadier leadership, and more meaningful progress.

If any of this resonates with you, I hope it offers a moment of pause — and maybe a little clarity — as the year begins.
